I can’t believe it’s the end of March and this is my first post for 2019. I’m not sure what is going on with the footwear industry, but I just haven’t found any shoes that inspired me or stopped me in my tracks. That is until I came across these practical little booties by Frye. The “Ray Harness” bootie. This is going to be the bootie everyone will want. It’s got a Western edge but the iconic harness rings and cut out sides give it a moto vibe. Zip closure at back and it sports a 1.5″ heel. Padded insole and very comfortable to walk in.

Shoe du jour brogue
Another day, another bad-ass borrowed from the boys, menswear style from The Office of Angela Scott. Kick it up a notch with the “Mrs. Doubt Mid-Heel” … a lace-up brogue with stamped croc and patent leather and a 2.5″ solid heel. It’s a shoe that can be worn with everything. Go ahead, make those ripped jeans looks extra fancy!! These kicks are extra comfy thanks to the cork insole that molds to your foot.
Kicks du jour
“Mr. Logan Lug Oxford” from The Office of Angela Scott. I love the name of these shoes and the name of this brand as much as I love the actual shoes. Bold yet playful, the shoes come with a set of solid black laces and a pair of played up red/black striped ones. Consciously constructed with a 1.2″ heel and rubber lug sole, Italian leather uppers and finished with gold-tone hardware – these might be the best constructed shoes I’ve ever owned. Cork insoles absorb shock and mold to your feet. With a company tagline “For women who mean business…badass shoes tailored to reveal your strengths.” These kicks kick ass! Customer service is also the best I’ve ever experienced from a brand. I sure hope they consider opening up a pop up “office” in Chicago!
Shoe du jour – the commuter
Never say never. This city girl has moved to the north shore “suburbs”. After 2 days, shin splints from walking in high heels while on the move to/from a train, I had to buy some more practical walking shoes. The hunt was on for a stylish commuting shoe. And although it seemed like slim pickings at first, I found “Codie” from Vionic. Due to the popularity of athleisure wear, stylish sneakers are still hot, but they aren’t exactly cheap. As for sizing, I had to size down half a size. Most flat shoes have zero arch support, these have an built in arch support, and that cushion is what sold me. A minimalist, modern, black leather flat with elastic accents and contrasting sole. My feet will be comfortable and stylish until I can get to the office and put on my heels.
Shoe du jour
I am a fan of anything Rag and Bone, especially when it’s on sale! The “Ellis” sock boot is trendy, stylish and comfortable. It shows off your sporty side with the contrasting white-knit stripes. A slim, clean profile, knit boot with a skinny 3.5″ block heel – minimalist perfection for summer and fall styles.
Slide into the weekend
Memorial Day weekend and the weather is hot! So it’s time to chill out and slide into some stylish sandals. The “Livvy” by Summit White Mountain is a simple leather slip-on sandal, with a black and white striped platform and contrasting natural leather trim. Perfect with every outfit, all weekend long.
Soles for the Soul – Shoe du jour
Did I really need another pair of boots? No. But I attended the Covet show in Chicago and couldn’t resist.
- They are black and white cowhair, so each pair is truly unique.
- They are well designed and fit like a glove.
- They are bad-ass cool.
More importantly, the main reason I bought these Alcala boots was because of the story behind them. Linda Alcala is the designer and owner of Alcala Boutique in Chicago. Her story is so inspiring. Don’t think she had it easy… nothing was handed to her. She struggled and had to scrape everything together and prove to her family and the industry that she not only could design her own line, but also be a successful business woman. She is truly an inspiration…and that is why I bought these boots.
Who knew soles could be good for one’s soul.
