Choo du jour!

My first pair of Jimmy Choo’s!!!! Forget cyber-Monday, I think the best shoe sales are on Black Friday, where you can get 60% off or more on your favorite designer shoes. Not wanting to fight the mobs of people or the protesters, I searched for the one boot I had been obsessing over for months, via the web. My size, style, and color delivered to my door from a guy that drives a big, brown truck. What could be better? Did I mention they were 60% off! And free shipping! The “Dayno” boot by Jimmy Choo. An eye-catching, sleek mid-calf, black leather boot with a sophisticated and slim 3.5″ block heel, round toe and signature engraved snaps. They may seem perfectly plain, yet they are simply elegant. Oh Jimmy Choo, I’m loving you!

Designed Dots

I was so impressed with my first shoe design from Shoes of Prey that I decided to design another pair. The silk, black and white polka-dot fabric is a limited design, so I opted for that – and who doesn’t love dots? Then to give it a punch of color I chose a bright, chartreuse green leather and a chunky 4″ heel. That’s it. Simple, yet funky. Bold, graphic and fun. They arrived in two weeks and fit like a glove. The sudden drop in temperature means summer is over and fall has arrived. The sandals and flip flops are gone and it’s officially boot season. Feeling a little sporty, I pulled these out of the box today. Sorel‘s iconic “1964 Premium boot” it’s been revamped with a modern edged, utilitarian style. Yep, they are really cool! Full-grain black leather and olive colored coated canvas. It was the color of the boot that stopped me in my tracks. Like all Sorel’s they are water-resistant, which is a plus. The above ankle boot has a wedged chunky lug heel, camo-printed sole and extra-long tow-toned laces. You can size down in these, but since I like to wear thicker socks, I stayed true to size. Casual but cool…wrap your feet in style.

Shoe du jour – designed by Donna

Two weeks ago I met some friends out in Oakbrook for lunch. I arrived early and decided to check out Nordstrom’s shoe department (shocker, I know)! A wall of beautifully displayed shoes under the marquee “Shoes of Prey” called out to me, luring me in. It’s a design your own shoe company, and Nordstrom in Oakbrook is the exclusive brick and mortar store that has the fabric samples and sample shoes to try on to determine your size along with helpful salespeople to assist you with the design process. Suddenly, I’m a kid in a candy store. This is heaven to a shoe addict! (Yes, I’m a shoeaholic. No, I don’t need help.) You design everything from the style of shoe, heel height, fabric for inside and outside of the shoes and any additional adornments you’d like. I did a quick design, met my friends for lunch and then returned to make some small modifications and purchase my shoes, leaving the store without a bag but an exciting purchase none-the-less. They claim that “crafting of your shoes will take 4 weeks, and delivery usually takes 2 – 4 days to metro areas (and maybe a smidge longer to rural locations).” They estimated my shoes would arrive by October 1st. My shoes arrived in less than two weeks! I received email updates as to the status of my shoes along the production line (confirmation of order, allocation station, where shoes are reviewed; stitch line, quality assessment and shipment). They arrived boxed with a letter from the person that worked to make my design a reality, along with a photo, love and care instructions, toe and heel inserts, heel caps and extra shoe laces. A high heeled custom designed oxford shoe, “designed by Donna”, has black leather 4.5″ chunky heel, upper and toe cap. A white leather with black graphic type adorns the front panel and the laces. The piping is a shiny silver petwer blue. The shoes are extremely comfortable, stylish and truly one of a kind. Shoes of Prey also offers a 365 day return policy or they will remake your shoes if you aren’t happy. Talk about customer service! I’m so impressed with the quality of the shoe that I can’t wait to design my next custom pair. Because there really is no such thing as too many shoes!

There is just something stylish about a zipper. “Fantasia” by Summit White Mountain takes a bold approach to the zipper and delivers a casual-cool style in this peep toe bootie.

The supple black leather hugs your foot. The crossover zipper provides easy on/off access, so it’s not only functional but also modernly stylish. The stacked, chunky 2.5″ heel is the perfect height.

Seriously, what is there not to love about this shoe? Walk in style!

The unseasonable “Seattle-like” weather in Chicago has hampered me from wearing sandals or opened-toed shoes.  I purchased the Rag & Bone “Margot” bootie at Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale. Although I do technically have another  Margot bootie in suede, the distressed leather and sleek dual zippers stopped me in my tracks. Rag & Bone boots are ridiculously comfortable, although their sizes do vary based on styles from year to year. This style typically runs a 1/2 size small, for this pair I actually sized up a full size! I admit at first I purchased a 1/2 size larger but after walking all day and trying them on again n the evening, it was clear that snug is not good, a full size up fixed that. Rounded toe, stylish working zippers on both sides, 3.25″ squared chunky heel. Rag & Bone boots rarely go on sale, so get them while you can and see why their edgy, understated boots have become a cult following.

Perhaps the designers were playing a game of dominos for inspiration …

Mod dots! Color-blocked double strapped sandals by Fendi. Toe band has geometric cut out details but its the polka-dot detail on the heel that made me want these shoes. These 4″ towering heels are amazingly comfortable, strikingly beautiful, fun and flirty. A true summer stand-out!

City Soles, a great neighborhood designer shoe boutique moved to a new and improved location. So I stopped by to take a look and say hello. Complimentary wine or espresso while you shop? Why not! Everyone needs to have their niche and this store has just that! Since I have a lot of shoes, I seriously don’t need any more. In fact, most shoes resemble ones I already have, except for one, the “Mabbare” sandal by Everybody BZ Moda, I had to try it on, I was only being polite. With great lines and unique cut outs, a simple sandal becomes art. The buttery soft black leather mixes mediums with black elastic and a 1″ heel. Simply stunning! Unique, sharp, edgy, comfortable and with an added incentive of a private sale discount, I walked out of the store with happy soles!
